  Gloucester Green Party

The Gloucester Green Party campaigns locally for social and environmental justice. The basis of our manifesto is the belief that concern for the environment, compassion, equality and honesty should be at the core of economic, social and civil liberties policies. As ecological, resource and financial crises arrive simultaneously, only the Green Party has an answer that will benefit all people.

Our core policies for Gloucester are:

  • To be a powerful green voice in Gloucester
  • To engage with the community to promote a healthier fairer sustainable Gloucester
  • To provide opportumities for political engagement.

The Green Party's core elements are :

Environmentalism and the need for urgent collective action on climate change.

Social liberalism - the promotion of dignity, equality, social justice and human rights for all.

Thank You for supporting  Greens in Gloucester!

Gloucester Green Party would like to thank you all for voting and contributing to the county wide success at the recent local elections.

Nationally the Green Party has gained 88 additional councillors including 7 in Gloucestershire - a truly great result! In Gloucester we’ve given people the opportunity to vote Green, which
has contributed to our national success. Our collective share of the
vote, and ever increasing political footprint heralds a new phase in our
ability to drive social equity and environmental respect.
Gloucester Green Party has also taken a step forward in terms of
recognition and local support, be it new enquiries or people pledging to
be more active campaigners. In the city election alone there were over
1500 people prepared to vote for us, even with no promotional campaign.
We owe it to them and ourselves to establish the Gloucester Green Party
as a campaigning force for Gloucester.

As part of our development plan for the Gloucester Green Party, we will
be looking for individuals to take on key specific roles. Please can I
encourage you to consider whether you feel able to take on a key role,
and to reply to me with a ‘Yes, I’m in!’

A brief overview of what Greens are planning at County level if elected:

  1. Warm homes for all - improving all homes to end the scandal of winter deaths and fuel poverty
  2. Transport improvements & traffic pollution reduction - investment in public transport, safe walking and cycling routes and improving broadband speeds in rural areas to facilitate home working
  3. Access to green spaces - ensuring Gloucestershire's Tree Strategy is implemented, ensuring county-owned land is managed for nature and nature corridors are protected
  4. Clean, Green jobs - we propose a Green New Deal with high-skilled, secure jobs in all our local communities
  5. Waste less, pollute less - reduce unnecessary waste, and ultimately eliminate inefficient, polluting and costly disposal practices
  6. Planning for human scale - we will revolutionise planning so that it serves the people of Gloucestershire first
  7. A Caring County - we will support local community provision in areas where there is poverty, loneliness, educational deprivation, digital deprivation, food and fuel poverty
  8. Food and farming - we will promote local food growing in Gloucestershire and support education programmes that increase nutritious diets
  9. Business at the heart of community - we will lobby for an extension of the rate holiday, reimbursed by central government, and for an increase in direct support payments. Grant 50% of council contracts to small and micro-businesses
  10. Education for the future - Greens will find ways to help the socially, digitally and nutritionally deprived recover the learning that they have missed during the pandemic and before.

Our aims for the areas within Gloucester City are very much aligned with the county aims whilst focusing on local issues such as air pollution, waste collection and safety.

Volunteers Needed! – We need individuals to help with the campaign and leafleting. Please reply to 'coordinator@gloucester.greenparty.org.uk'  with 'I have time!' if you can spare a few hours over the coming weeks.

  Thank You for your Vote

Mike at University of Gloucestershire Debate.

We would like to thank you all for giving us your vote on Thursday.  It was the second highest vote we have received as the Green party in Gloucester. Thank you Mike for standing and representing us so well at the Hustings and interviews. We now have time to relax for a while until the New Year. We will then start preparing a strategy to get our first Gloucester councillor in next May's city elections.

NHS staff salaries reduce by 14% since 2010. The government’s Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs) are a smokescreen for a massive programme of hospital and community service closures, and are its latest instrument for privatisation.

The NHS is one of our greatest achievements. We cannot allow it to be undermined and ultimately destroyed.

Our NHS, fight for it

Our NHS needs you to fight for it. We must march together, sending a clear message to the government - “the NHS will last as long as there are folk with the faith to fight for it.”
